June 10, 2009

FACETS is HRABC's award winning annual program honored by the South Florida Business Journal as number one in the Diversity Works! Nonprofit category. The FACETS program was also recognized by SHRM as a Pinnacle Winner Award in 2006 and included in the 2004 Showcase of Leadership Excellence at the National Leadership Conference in Alexandria, Virginia.
Workshop 3-5PM:
TOPIC: Diversity & Inclusion as a Change Initiative
SPEAKER: Carol Susan DeVaney, CPLP, CPF (click here for complete bio)
We recognize the fact that Diversity and Inclusion is not a training initiative or a project, yet we often do not know what we can do to really make it a part of our organization’s culture. This can often result in entertaining training, multicultural lunches, feel good projects and other activities but no real measurable results in terms of a culture of inclusion.
This two hour hands on workshop will look at strategies for approaching Diversity and Inclusion as a culture change initiative. We will look at what change efforts work and which ones don’t, and how not to just create a case for a culture that is inclusive and values diversity, but how to approach it from a change framework to successfully implement the desired culture change strategy.
Participants will…
- learn SHRM’s definitions for Diversity and Inclusion.
- understand how creating a culture of inclusion requires skills in successful change management.
- have an overview of what elements have to be in place for successful change.
- learn from what other organizations have done.
- have a list of resources that can help them in their planning and a list of questions to start off with.
Admission prices:
Member price=Free
Guest price=$30
Dinner Meeting: 6-8 (Networking 5:30-6PM)
TOPIC: The Transformation of Diversity: Creating and Sustaining Positive Change
SPEAKER: Dr. Mixon Smiley (click here for complete bio)
Given the increasing complexity of our world today, many leaders are asking themselves “Is my workforce able to adapt to change and increase their effectiveness on the job?” In answering that question, attention must be paid to how well “diversity” is transformed from a concept with myriad definitions to the creation of programs designed to empower employees to be productive and responsive in a dynamic organization and workforce.
In order to demonstrate the effectiveness of this transformation, the speaker will share information about two major projects that she developed and implemented at her organization. Highlights of the development (successes and challenges) of these projects will be presented to provide information for those who see the vision and desire to model the process.
