What is Workforce Readiness?

Workforce Readiness, as defined by SHRM, is the critical process of equipping current and future employees with the necessary skills, competencies, and behaviors to excel in the ever-evolving workplace. By focusing on preparedness, up-skilling/re-skilling, retaining, accommodating, and transitioning, organizations play a vital role in fostering awareness, taking action, and advocating for a workforce that is primed for success. Veterans Florida is a non-profit created by the State of Florida to help military veterans transition to civilian life and to promote Florida’s status as the nation’s most veteran-friendly state. Veterans Florida provides powerful tools for veterans to take advantage of the benefits of living and working in the Sunshine State. Through their Career Services Program, they connect veterans with employers who are eager to hire veterans for jobs that put their particular military skills to use. They also assist veterans in creating a winning resume and preparing for job interviews. Employers receive veteran recruiting assistance and may apply for our Workforce Training Grant.

One-Stop Career Centers provide job seekers with a full range of assistance under one roof. One-Stops operate in all 50 states and offer training referrals, career counseling, job listings, and many similar employment-related services. CareerOneStop is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration.

Florida Ready to Work is a research-based career readiness program created by Florida law. The program focuses on developing a work ready talent pipeline with the essential employability skills required for individual, business, and whole community economic well-being and growth. The DEO assists the Governor in advancing Florida’s economy by championing the state’s economic development vision and by administering state and federal programs and initiatives to help visitors, citizens, businesses, and communities.
